It’s hot outside.
You’ve spent all day hiking with your kids and everyone is tired. The drive home was long, your kids are cranky and starting to argue and all you can think about is taking a shower, pouring yourself a cold glass of lemonade and lounging in bed with a book.
By the time you get home, you’ve noticed the weather has turned. The sky is black, the wind is blowing, and you can’t help but notice the smell of rain in the air.
The downpour starts just as you’re pulling up to your house.
Yet as you’re sitting in your car, fidgeting for the garage door opener, you can’t seem to find it.
That’s when you remember that plopping sound before you left the hiking trail.
It must have fallen out of the car.
Replacing the remote
No one pays much attention to their garage door remote- and although you know it had a button and it (in theory) was supposed to remain attached to your sun visor, you have no idea what model it was or where you can buy a replacement.
You can start by calling the garage door manufacturer—there’ s chance they’ll sell a remote that’s compatible with the system you currently have. If you still have the manual you should be able to pull a customer service phone number from that.
If you don’t have the manual, you should be able to find what you’re looking for on Google.
If the company has gone under, or their customer service center has indicated they’re unable to help you, you’ll want to give us a call. At Above the Rest Garage Door Repair we have more than 25 years of experience in helping homeowners in Colorado Springs with these types of issues.
We’ll be happy to help you find a universal remote.
Programming your new garage door remote
If you’re able to locate a new remote on your own, you’ll still need to program it. First, add the batteries and ready the motor unit by using a stepladder to press the button that says “learn code” or something similar.
Once that’s done, climb back down, move about 5 feet away from the motor and press the open button on the remote. If the motor recognizes the remote, you should see a light, or hear a sound.
Again, if all of this sounds confusing, or you need help programming your new garage door remote, call Above the Rest Garage Door Repair today at 719-499-0491.
